DEA preparing two deviation wells

DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG is planning deviated extensions of two already existing wells. The deviations in the two production wells Völkersen-Nord Z6 and Völkersen-Nord Z4a are intended to develop reserves of natural gas located at a depth of around 5,000 metres. The deviations are to be drilled from the existing production sites near Grasdorf. The drilling rig required for the task is scheduled to be put in place in June. The existing wells will be deviated deep underground. The Völkersen-Nord Z4a project was already presented to the local stakeholders back in September 2015. DEA is now resuming the planning and will use the company's own T-160 drilling rig for both deviation wells.

Applying the strictest environmental and safety standards worldwide, DEA will thus proceed with the safe production of the most environmentally friendly fossil source of energy and hence make an important contribution towards a successful energy transition. Thanks to its low CO₂ emissions, natural gas will continue to gain in importance as part of the overall energy mix within the implementation of the international climate protection targets and serve as bridge to the renewable sources of energy. DEA will continue to develop regional natural gas deposits gradually through the systematic planning of additional projects.

Natural gas production in Lower Saxony is a major contributor to the security of natural gas supplies in Germany. All the natural gas produced from this domestic source is exclusively destined for consumption in Germany.

Background information

With domestic gas production of around 1.7 billion cubic metres annually, DEA is one of the major natural gas producers in Germany. Production from domestic natural gas deposits by the sector’s enterprises covers around 8 per cent of Germany’s entire consumption. These companies are thus making a significant contribution towards reducing the country's dependence on imports and providing a secure energy supply.

The T-160 is one of most powerful drilling rigs in Europe. The electrically powered deep drilling rig with a drive output of over 6,300 kilowatts also makes it possible to drill widely deviated as well as horizontal wells over distances of more than 6,000 metres. The derrick of the T-160 rig stands about 62 metres tall.
