DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG has published its 2017 sustainability report. As an exploration and production company operating internationally, DEA pursues the objective of producing crude oil and natural gas sustainably, safely and in an environmentally friendly manner. The focus of the sustainability report is on internal corporate activities relating to occupational safety, health and environmental protection as well as research on sustainability, equality of opportunity, compliance and social responsibility. Public acceptance of DEA, its reputation as a good employer as well as its growth opportunities and financing potential are extremely closely associated with these topics.
In a peer comparison conducted by the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) on emissions and energy consumption per production unit, DEA is amongst the very best of the industry. With constantly good and very good results regarding emissions as well as energy consumption, DEA has delivered an outstanding performance for years now and, in an international comparison, the company has substantially outperformed the IOGP average. Such an achievement requires a great deal of effort of our whole company. DEA’s total expenditure on environmental protection also remained very high in 2016, amounting to 75 million euros.
To reinforce our commitment to low emissions DEA joined the World Bank’s “Zero Flaring by 2030” initiative at the beginning of 2017. This international initiative addresses governments, oil companies and development institutions in order to stop the routine flaring of gas extracted during oil production. This helps to achieve a more sustainable solution and to protect the environment. In the fields where DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG is operator the German company already complies with this initiative by not carrying out any routine flaring.
