Dual studies at the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA)

The dual programme takes 3 years, with alternating practical and theory phases. A year of study, which always commences on 1 October, consists of approx. 20 theory weeks per annum. In the company, the trainees mostly work in commercial departments, in which the theoretical knowledge is applied and intensified in practice. The dual programme culminates in a Bachelor of Science degree.

Practical section:

In order to apply and intensify the theoretical study content learnt, practical training is given in the various departments of our company, such as Procurement, Accounting and Human Resources Management. Our objective is to organise the practical phases in such a manner as to ensure that our students are integrated as far as possible into the relevant workflows and given instruction in working as independently as possible, with the ability to define own assignments. Moreover, training that focuses largely on the special interests of the students is possible in some departments. In the process, as a rule activities and projects are assigned for students to deal with independently, without supervision.

Theoretical section:

The programme is structured in a modular manner and, as a rule, comprises three theory phases lasting several weeks for each year of study. The 13 modules – such as Corporate Management, Accounting & Taxation and IT – in turn, are sub-classified into partial modules that are completed in parallel with studies by submitting certificates of attendance and performance. In the first two years of study, special business management expertise, industry-specific knowledge as well as the development of methodological and social skills are taught to the students. In the third year of study, in addition a project assignment and a bachelor’s thesis are required to be completed.

Optimum deployment of IT at companies calls for optimised maintenance and further development of the software solutions in use. In addition to intensifying practical and theoretical informatics as well as applied mathematics, the course of study focuses on subject areas like software technology, software quality assurance and the architecture of information systems. In addition, you can extend and intensify your knowledge through a wide spectrum of (compulsory) optional subjects and seminars. A practice-related bachelor’s thesis constitutes the final criterion for the degree. The concept of dual studies means alternating between theory and practical blocks. A 10-week theory semester is followed by a 13-week practical semester in the company. Studying at the NORDAKADEMIE has a holistic objective that is taken into account within the scope of “general studies”. This is where students learn to broaden their horizons thanks to a wide variety of seminars and foreign languages.

Prerequisites

“Abitur” (matriculation exemption or the equivalent of UK “A” levels), good scores in Mathematics, German, English, good general knowledge, willingness to learn, teamwork capabilities, openness, own initiative, interest in informatics or computer science.
