DEA is committed to Njord upgrade

DEA is ready to invest in the future of the Njord area in the Norwegian Sea. The partnerships in the licences Njord and Bauge have submitted the plans for the development projects to the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Terje Søviknes. Capital expenditures for both fields total more than 2 billion Euros. DEA recently increased its interest in seven licences in the Njord area and has now a share of 50% in the Njord field*.

A revised plan for development and operation (PDO) of the Njord field and a plan for development and operation of the new Bauge field were submitted to Norwegian authorities by operator Statoil.  

“The Njord Area is a key area for DEA in Norway, and these projects will create considerable value for at least 20 years”, said Hans-Hermann Andrease, Managing Director of DEA Norge. “The industry in Mid-Norway will significantly benefit from the further development of the Njord area, which includes upgrading of the Njord installations and development of the Bauge field”, Andreae underlines.

The PDO for Njord provides that the field will remain on stream until 2040, what is important for the specialist communities in Kristiansund and Stjørdal, as well as the Mid-Norway supply industry. In addition, an upgraded field centre and new infrastructure at Njord will facilitate the development also of other fields in the area.

The tie-back of Bauge, as well as potential third-party tie-ins, will be facilitated by the work carried out on the Njord A platform at Kværner Stord. Njord A and Bravo will be upgraded to recover the remaining resources on the Njord, Hyme and Bauge fields. The remaining resources in the Njord and Hyme fields total 175 million barrels of oil equivalent. This corresponds to the reserves produced on the Njord field since first oil in 1997. In addition, there are 73 million barrels of oil equivalent at Bauge.

The Bauge field development concept includes one subsea template, two oil producers and one water injector. The Bauge resources will be phased in to the Njord A platform. This alone helps increase the life of the Njord field by three years. 

Both projects are planned to come on stream at the end of 2020.

Njord and Bauge

Capital expenditures for both fields total more than 2 billion Euros (19.8 billion Norwegian Kroner), therof about 1.7 billion Euros for Njord (NOK 15.7 billion) and about 400 million Euros for Bauge (NOK 4.1 billion). These new investments are triggered by new technology and project improvements for both fields.

• Njord has been on stream for 6,821 days, and 54 wells have been drilled so far
• 10 new production wells are planned on the field
